What is faith community nursing?
Faith community nursing is recognized as a nursing specialty by the American Nurses Association and is guided by its own scope and standards of practice. The faith community nurse is an Alaska licensed registered nurse who has obtained advanced education in the specialty of faith community nursing.
Course description
The Foundations of Faith Community Nursing class provides basic knowledge and skills needed to initiate a faith community nursing ministry. It combines classroom teaching, as well as online self-instructional modules and exercises. Participants explore the history, philosophy and ethical practice of faith community nursing, as well as legal issues, accountability and documentation.
The course provides tools and resources that faith community nurses and ministries of health can use to initiate disease prevention and health promotion programs. Participants will recognize their role in facilitating prayer, worship and functioning within a ministerial team.
Live course training dates are Jan. 28-29 and March 25-26.
Continuing education
Approximately 37 contact hours of continuing education (CE) will be awarded at the completion of the course.
