Healthgrades names Providence Saint John’s Health Center One of America’s Top 250 Best Hospitals
SANTA MONICA (Jan. 23, 2024) – Providence Saint John’s Health Center, which earned 5 stars last summer from the federal government, was honored today by Healthgrades as one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals for 2024.
This achievement puts the Santa Monica hospital in the top 5 percent of hospitals nationwide for overall clinical performance and reflects Providence Saint John’s commitment to exceptional patient care.
“Every day I’m inspired by our extraordinary doctors and caregivers who treat each and every patient with the best possible care and the deepest compassion,” said Michael Ricks, chief executive of the Providence Los Angeles/Coastal Service Area. “Providence Saint John’s is committed to continually raising the bar on excellence, innovation and whole person care.”
In the past year, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid designated Providence Saint John’s a 5-Star hospital, one of just 483 that received this top designation for quality and safe care. In the fall, the hospital also was recognized by Healthgrades among the 100 best hospitals for orthopedic surgery and for joint replacement. Additionally, U.S. New & World Report ranked the hospital No. 6 in the Los Angeles Metro Area and No. 12 in California for quality, and rated Providence Saint John’s No. 38 in the nation for orthopedics.
To determine the top hospitals for 2024, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for more than 30 conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide. Unlike other hospital studies, Healthgrades ratings are based solely on what matters most: patient outcomes.
The 2024 Healthgrades analysis revealed significant variation in hospital performance, making it increasingly important to seek care at top-rated programs. From 2020-22, if all hospitals, as a group, performed similarly to America’s 250 Best Hospitals, on average, 178,402 lives could potentially have been saved.*
“Healthgrades commends Providence Saint John’s Health Center for their leadership and continued dedication to high quality care,” said Brad Bowman, M.D., chief medical officer and head of Data Science at Healthgrades. “As one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals, Providence Saint John’s is elevating the standard for quality care nationwide and ensuring superior outcomes for the patients in their community.”
