St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka Welcomes New Cardiac Surgeon

Cardiothoracic surgeon Antonio Laudito, M.D. has joined the cardiac care program at St. Joseph Health, Humboldt County (SJH-HC). Dr. Laudito earned his medical degree from the University of Turin Medical School in Turin, Italy, and comes to SJH-HC from Hilton Head Hospital in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Dr. Laudito completed medical residencies in cardiac surgery (University of Turin Medical School), general surgery (Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York City, NY) and cardiothoracic surgery (University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital). In addition to his residency accomplishments, Dr. Laudito also completed a pediatric cardiac surgery fellowship at the University of California San Francisco. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

Dr. Laudito said he understands the deep connection between a patient’s mental and spiritual health with their physical health. His approach to care considers the mind, body and spirit.

“I love accessing people’s hearts through their minds,” he said. “It starts with establishing clear communication and being sincere and authentic. I feel as though I have been given a unique privilege to care for people.”

Dr. Laudito’s experience in the full spectrum of cardiothoracic surgery strengthens a cardiac care program that can treat most patients locally instead of having to refer them outside of the area for care. The interdisciplinary cardiac care team at SJH-HC has specialists in cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology and interventional cardiology. The addition of Dr. Laudito rounds out an already robust program, one that is unique for a community the size of Humboldt County.

“Dr. Laudito brings remarkable expertise and extensive experience to our talented team of cardiac care providers,” said Roberta Luskin-Hawk, M.D., chief executive SJH-HC. “His advanced capabilities in coronary artery bypass, valve replacement and valve reconstructive surgery provides will help us meet the cardiac care needs in our community.” Dr. Laudito joins cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons, Dr. Carl Adams and Dr. Bruce Toporoff.
