Providence St. Patrick Hospital receives Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award in nation by Practice Greenhealth

Providence St. Patrick Hospital has once again been awarded a Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award by Practice Greenhealth as part of its annual awards program, one of the nation’s leading organizations dedicated to environmental sustainability. The Environmental Excellence award is Practice Greenhealth’s highest honor for hospitals leading in sustainability performance and demonstrating comprehensive sustainability programs inherent to organizational culture. This is the third time St. Pat’s has received this award.

St. Pat’s also received the Circle of Excellence Award for Waste by diverting over 40% of waste from landfill and hazardous waste streams, through more efficient sorting, waste prevention, robust recycling, single-use device reprocessing, composting, and other approaches.

The hospital also received the Greening the Operating Room Recognition for substantial progress in reducing the surgical environment's impact.

Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Polson received the Greenhealth Partner for Change Award, which recognizes superior performance in environmental sustainability, covering a range of different sustainability programs and activities. Winners have also made substantive progress on mercury elimination.

“Over the last few years, Providence has taken major steps forward in integrating climate resiliency into our operations and culture,” Providence Chief Environmental Stewardship Officer Beth Schenk said. “There’s been a groundswell of energy and excitement around environmental stewardship, and I’m encouraged by the progress we’ve made toward carbon negative by 2030. I’m deeply grateful for the support we’ve received throughout our family of organizations in service to our vision of health for a better world.”

“It is an honor to be part of a national movement developing innovative solutions to transform health care in the face of a changing climate,” says Sarah Johnson, Clinical Program Manager, Environmental Stewardship. “I am grateful that Providence has been recognized for our work centered on bettering the health of our communities and our planet.”
