New Mobile Clinic Brings COVID Vaccines to the Homeless, Under and Uninsured in Sonoma County

In March 2021, a new Mobile Health Clinic van hit the road, providing the traditional services Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital has provided since 1991 (like health screenings, treatment of minor conditions, etc.)

The Mobile Health Clinic has been essential during this pandemic. When the original clinic van no longer passed California’s vehicle emission standards in 2020, providers used the parked van as a drive up COVID-19 testing site.

The Mobile Clinic has been offering free medical care to the most vulnerable in Sonoma County for the past 30 years. The Mobile Health Clinic visits homeless shelters, encampments and low-income communities to provide health care services at no cost to underserved populations including homeless and undocumented individuals and the under-insured or uninsured. Services include:

  • Treatment of minor medical conditions
  • Limited chronic disease management
  • Health screenings
  • Physicals exams
  • Immunizations
  • Health and Nutrition Education referrals
  • Information and referrals to community resources
  • Brief mental health counseling, case management, and referrals

The state-of-the-art van was funded primarily by Memorial’s historical St. Joseph Health Care for the Poor fund, as well as in part by a grant from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital Foundation. The original van was recently donated to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington.
