Mission Hospital Named Blue Distinction Center for Orthopedics and Spine

This distinction follows recent accolades from U.S. News and World Report, Healthgrades, Leapfrog and Newsweek

MISSION VIEJO (August 26, 2019) – Mission Hospital is proud to announce that Anthem Blue Cross California and Blue Shield of California have awarded our Orthopedics and Spine programs as Blue Distinction Centers. The Orthopedic program also earned an additional distinction as a Blue Distinction Center+.

Blue Distinction is a national designation program that recognizes health care providers that demonstrate expertise in delivering quality and affordable care to meet specialty needs—safely, effectively and cost-efficiently.

The goal of the Blue Distinction program is to help consumers find both quality and value for their specialty care needs, while encouraging health care professionals to improve the overall quality and delivery of care nationwide.

“This prestigious accolade validates our ongoing commitment to provide the highest quality, affordable care that results in outstanding patient experience and outcomes,” shared Mission Hospital Chief Executive Seth Teigen.

As a Blue Distinction Center and Blue Distinction Center+ in orthopedics for knee and hip replacement, Mission Hospital has demonstrated surgical expertise that results in low complication rates and few hospital readmissions.

Similarly, status as a Blue Distinction Center in comprehensive spine surgery, validates Mission’s expertise in complex procedures such as discectomy, fusion and decompression.

In the past few months, Mission Hospital also received distinctions from U.S. News and World Report, Healthgrades, Leapfrog and Newsweek.

U.S. News and World Report identified Mission Hospital as a Best Regional Hospital, with a ranking No. 1 in South Orange County, No. 3 in Orange County, No. 8 in the Los Angeles metro area, and No. 13 in the state of California. Healthgrades honored Mission Hospital with the America’s 250 Best Hospitals Award. Leapfrog awarded Mission Hospital with an ‘A’ safety rating.
