Providence Alaska to launch new residential behavioral health program for youth
The Providence Youth Behavioral Health Center expands in-state access to psychiatric treatment for adolescents ages 12-17
ANCHORAGE, Alaska — As part of its commitment to expanding access to behavioral health services, Providence Alaska will open the Providence Youth Behavioral Health Center in Anchorage later this fall.
The Providence Youth Behavioral Health Center is a Level 5 Residential Psychiatric Treatment Center serving adolescents ages 12–17 who require 24-hour psychiatric care, with typical stays ranging from 30 to 60 days based on individual needs.
The 16-bed facility supports at-risk youth who need intensive, structured treatment in a residential setting to:
— Stay safe and maintain stability
— Develop healthy coping and self-regulation skills
— Successfully transition back into home, school and community settings without prolonged residential placement
"The Providence Youth Behavioral Health Center provides an important level of care for Alaska youth and their families,” said Carla MacGregor, LPC, senior director of Behavioral Health, Providence Alaska. “The center helps young people transition safely to the next phase of treatment — whether outpatient care or other specialized services — while reducing unnecessary hospital stays for patients whose inpatient needs have been addressed.”
The center also helps reduce out-of-state placements and expands access for youth with complex trauma who often face limited availability of specialized treatment beds. Through coordination with other Providence behavioral health programs, the center helps ensure adolescents receive the right level of care at the right time, close to home. --
