Radiation Oncology Program at Providence St. Joseph Hospital Orange Earns ACR Accreditation

The Providence St. Joseph Hospital Radiation Oncology program based at the Center for Cancer Prevention and Treatment has earned a full three-year accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR). Providence St. Joseph Hospital, Orange is the only community hospital cancer program in Orange County with this distinction.

“Our team is committed to providing our patients with innovative, high-quality, individualized care,” says Kathy Berger, executive director, The Center for Cancer Prevention and Treatment. “Achieving the ACR gold seal of accreditation signifies our radiation oncology program is operating at the highest standards of quality and patient safety. This national recognition validates our commitment to our patients.”

The radiation oncologists and team of specialists at the Center for Cancer Prevention and Treatment work side-by-side with other cancer experts, including medical oncology, surgeons, pathology and interventional radiology to create individualized treatment plans delivered with precision for each patient.

“Radiation therapy is a powerful cancer treatment that has become much more precise and effective with advanced technology,” says Venita Williams, M.D., medical director of Radiation Oncology at Providence St. Joseph Hospital, Orange. “ACR accreditation confirms that our team at Providence St. Joseph, Orange consistently meets high standards of accuracy and safety—in order to achieve the best results for all our patients.”

The Center for Cancer Treatment and Prevention offers preventive services, diagnostic screening and treatment in one convenient location. The team focuses on whole-person care and the unique needs of each patient. The center offers a full range of multidisciplinary services, including 11 site-specific programs such as breast, lung, skin, colorectal, brain and other cancer sites. Patients have access to the latest clinical trials and the most advanced technology, support groups, wellness classes and a navigator program that provides patients with one-on-one support throughout their cancer journey.

The ACR is the nation’s oldest and most widely accepted radiology and radiation oncology accrediting body, with over 700 accredited sites, and 30 years of accreditation experience.  Participation in accreditation is voluntary, but the ACR seal of accreditation is awarded only to facilities who demonstrate they are meeting specific Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field. These reviewers extensively assess radiation oncology sites according to standards for patient care and treatment, patient safety, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.
