Providence Neurosurgeon selected as Spokane Clinical Teacher of the Year

Spokane, WA—The students of the University of Washington School of Medicine-Gonzaga University Regional Health Partnership selected Jonathan D. Carlson, MD, PhD as Spokane Clinical Teacher of the Year for 2018-2019. Dr. Carlson is UW clinical associate professor and neurosurgeon at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.

The Spokane Clinical Teacher of the Year award honors a clinical medical educator who has served as a role model or has inspired medical students along their journey to becoming a doctor. Dr. Carlson was nominated for going above and beyond teaching skills, providing support that the student found “invaluable” toward his/her future career.

The students’ nomination also went on to say, “Dr. Carlson went out of his way to teach me about life as a physician. Our conversations included far more than just physiology or neurosurgery, ranging from topics such as how to survive as a surgical resident, to how to find a job or start a practice. These are topics that rarely come up in traditional medical curriculum.” This prestigious award recognizes excellence in teaching among UWSOM clinical medical educators.
