Providence Alaska, Dawson Construction break ground on Workforce Housing Project

Complex will feature 16 fully furnished rooms to provide
caregivers a place to stay until they find permanent housing

KODIAK, Alaska — Providence Alaska and Dawson Construction will officially break ground Thursday, May 12, on a new housing complex designed to provide new caregivers a place to stay until permanent housing becomes available.

The Providence Kodiak Workforce Housing Project will feature 16 fully furnished rooms — four with two bedrooms and 12 with one bedroom — and help in hospital recruiting efforts.

“Kodiak Island is an amazing place to live and work, but one of the biggest concerns we hear from new hires is the challenge of finding a place to call home,” said Karl Hertz, administrator of Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center. “This housing complex will help ease the way of caregivers by providing a temporary home until permanent accommodations become available.”

Caregivers who live in the complex will be required to sign a lease and make monthly payments.

The complex will be located at 110 Bartell Ave. in Kodiak near Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center. Construction is scheduled to be completed in August 2023, with the first caregivers able to move in Sept. 1, 2023.  Estimated cost of the project is $5.1 million.
