Ty’s story: Here for the community

Respiratory therapist shares his Proudly Providence Swedish story.

Ty Sauve has dedicated his life to caring for others. As the lead respiratory therapist in his department, he’s spent decades treating patients with skill and compassion. But for Ty, it’s more than just a job—it’s a calling.

His journey with Providence began in 1996 as a patient transporter, and in many ways, it changed his life. Providence gave him direction, purpose, and even love. It’s where he met his wife—in the ED, no less—and where they had their first date. For Ty, Providence isn’t just where he works: it’s his family.

Beyond the hospital walls, Ty finds joy in camping, golfing, and spending time with his six cats. He loves trips to Hawaii and plays a key role in advancing respiratory therapy education at Providence to new nurse, resident nurses and new hires. His impact extends far beyond his patients.

And sometimes, Ty’s dedication finds him in the most unexpected places. One day at the gym, he saw a man collapse. Without hesitation, he stepped in, performed CPR, and helped save the man’s life. Later, when the man was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, Ty was there to help—on his day off.

“I came in because his family had asked if I could be here and by all means I wouldn't have had it any other way," said Ty.

Ty doesn’t think of his patients as just 'patients'; they are so much more than that. Ty remains friends with the man he met at the gym and even play golf together. For Ty, this is what it means to be part of a community—lifting others up, just as they have lifted him.
