Dr. Kevin Olson named CMO, Central Division Institutes and Programs
Joel Gilbertson
Chief Executive
Providence Central Division
I am pleased to share that Kevin Olson, M.D., has accepted the role of chief medical officer for Providence Central Division Institutes and Programs. Kevin brings extensive experience, having previously served as chief executive of clinical programs for the Oregon Region.
In this new position, Kevin and his team will focus on delivering specialty care in a highly coordinated and affordable manner with the best possible outcomes for those who come to us for care in the areas of cancer, heart, women and children and neuroscience.
Kevin’s responsibilities will include all service areas in the Central Division, from eastern Washington and Montana to Oregon, Texas and New Mexico. Kevin’s first priority will be reaching out to meet with colleagues across the division to understand the nuances of specialty care delivery at their sites. From that path of discovery, Kevin will build a team in service to our specialty institutes and programs.
This continues Providence’s work of restructuring the system institute teams, so that we can ultimately bring the work closer to those we care for at the bedside. By reducing layers, our goal is to create more efficient decision making and resource utilization in our specialty care delivery across the Central Division. Kevin will report into me and will have accountability to the system clinical institutes team through the Providence Clinical Network. We’ll share more information on Kevin’s team in the coming weeks.
I mentioned above that Kevin is well prepared for this work given his years as a physician leader, first with his private practice, NW Cancer Specialists/Compass Oncology, and then with Providence. He joined Providence in 2013 as executive medical director of cancer services in Oregon and then was named to lead all clinical programs in the region six years later.
However, more than his executive experience, I want to recognize Kevin’s passion and compassion for the patients we serve. From the beginning of his career as an oncologist he was called to care for patients when they were at their most vulnerable. This commitment to serving those in need will guide him as he builds and leads his team, crafting a path forward that creates continued high-level performance and alignment with system strategic priorities.
Please join me in welcoming Kevin to his new role.
