CALIFORNIA (Nov. 18, 2023) -- The Providence South Division Cancer Institute serving the health organization’s 17 California hospitals earned national recognition this week, included among some of the nation’s premier cancer programs.

Becker’s Healthcare Review included Providence on its list of 100+ Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Oncology Programs for 2024. The list features cancer centers with globally renowned experts, innovative clinical trials and intensive safety protocols.

“The unique Providence institute concept is an integrated network that connects patients to high quality cancer care across 17 hospitals from Eureka to Mission Viejo,” said Matthew Ducsik, vice president, Providence Clinical Institutes. “This adaptability allows us to treat patients where they are, and to give them access to innovative therapies and clinical trials.

“It makes us truly special to our patients and the communities we serve across California,” he added.

Oncology programs included in the list “have garnered national acclaim for advancing cancer care via their cutting-edge clinical trials and life-changing research,” according to Becker’s.

Providence is a leader nationwide in research for the first multi-cancer early detection test, the Galleri blood test that can identify signals for more than 50 cancers. All patients with a significant inherited risk are eligible for this trial.

The institute provides nationally accredited, cutting-edge cancer care to approximately 20,000 new patients annually. Comprehensive services include preventive measures, advanced diagnostics, active treatments, palliative support and to end-of-life care. They employ the latest medical therapies such as adoptive T cell treatments and stereotactic body radiosurgery.

Emphasizing patient-centric care, treatments are tailored based on individual tumor biology, incorporating holistic factors into therapy decisions. The institute has implemented the Ambry CARE program, which helps identify high-risk cancer patients.

Additionally, through partnerships and innovative programs, the institute is making significant strides in reducing health care disparities and promoting early cancer detection.

“We’ve made significant accomplishments across the cancer continuum, specifically, with our novel screening and early detection programs,” said Brad Bott, executive director of the South Division Cancer Clinical Institute.
