Lisa Greenfield’s father and uncle were heroin addicts. Her dad committed suicide in 2011. She succumbed to substance abuse and for years lived on and around the streets of Portland, Oregon. She became estranged from the family she loved—her mother and the younger siblings she once looked out for. She twice attended rehab programs. Both times, she relapsed immediately after returning to a life without steady shelter.
