Providence Swedish supports human trafficking survivors

January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month

If you are a victim or a survivor of human trafficking, you’re not alone. Everyone deserves to feel safe, treated with care and respect, and feel empowered to access support when needed. It is normal to be hesitant about labeling something “assault” or “abuse." Please know you do not have to use this language to access our services – you decide what feels best to you. You are in control.

Care close to home

The Providence Intervention Center for Assault and Abuse (PICAA) in Snohomish County is a safe and confidential place where you can receive support, care and resources to heal from your trauma. PICAA is staffed by compassionate and trained professionals who understand the complexities and challenges of human trafficking. They will treat you with respect, dignity, and empathy, and will help you make informed decisions about your next steps.

What We Do

Our services include:

  • Advocacy: We offer support, information, and referrals to help you navigate the legal, medical, and social systems that may be involved in your case. We can also accompany you to court, police interviews, or hospital visits.
  • Forensic Medical Exams: Our specially trained nurses perform forensic medical exams to collect evidence, document injuries, and provide treatment for physical needs surrounding the assault. The exam is free and voluntary, if you are 18 or older you can choose whether to report the crime to the police or child protective services (CPS).
  • Therapy: Our licensed therapists provide individual therapy to help you cope with the trauma and heal from the abuse. Therapy is available for adults aged 22 years old and older, is free and voluntary, and you choose the frequency and duration of your sessions.
  • Support Groups: Free, confidential trauma-informed support groups offered in person or online.
