Providence patient serves up a slice of appreciation for caregivers

Many people in the Spokane, Wash. community know Mark Starr for his longtime ownership of David’s Pizza and his involvement in the community.

But last December, Providence caregivers and providers got to know Mark as a patient when he arrived at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center fighting for his life. He was rushed to the hospital because a 20,000-pound ski hill groomer crushed him at Mount Spokane.

Mark spent six weeks recovering at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center

While he still has a long road ahead of him, he says his care team’s compassion, dedication, and skills was the difference between life and death.

Over the summer, Mark delivered pizzas to the fourth-floor caregivers with a message of thanks

“One of the greatest things that happened to me is that I met all of you great people,” said Mark during his visit. “Your positivity saved my life.”

Watch a heartfelt video from Mark who says he wouldn’t be alive without his amazing care team.
