Providence PACE Cully provides safety and stability to seniors

Twenty years ago, people over the age of 50 made up 37% of the houseless population. Today, it’s close to half. For older adults experiencing houslessness, finding safe housing and consistent care can feel impossible — but at Providence ElderPlace, now Providence Oregon PACE, hope and stability are within reach.

For John Gerrard, age 81, the support he experienced at PACE changed everything. After years of bouncing between hospitals and temporary stays with family, John was connected to the Homeless Mobile Intake Team and placed in the Providence PACE Cully community. “This is a joy,” John says. “It is stability that I really have never had."

Providence PACE Cully is just one of the assisted living centers providing people like John with housing, medical care and social support under one roof. These living centers are part of Providence PACE, Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly. PACE acts as both an insurance and a provider. Care can be at a Providence PACE health and social center, or at home when needed.

The Homeless Mobile Intake Team in Multnomah County helps connect housless seniors to spaces like these. “We have placed 150 folks in different facilities around the county — from adult care homes to assisted living,” says Jody Michelson, program manager.

At Providence, we believe health begins with stability. Through Providence Oregon PACE, we’re helping seniors live with dignity, security, and peace of mind; because everyone deserves a place to call home. "Everybody here—they’re excellent," John says."The place is clean. People are taken care of.”
