Survivors of violence and abuse can now access specialized medical care and critical community services in one supportive location in Hillsboro.
The new Providence SAFE Center at the Family Peace Center of Washington County brings together 22 partner organizations, helping survivors access medical care, advocacy, legal support, housing assistance and other services under one roof.
The clinic is designed around dignity, safety and healing, helping survivors access support, resources and medical care in one place.
“This is the future of survivor care, and it should be the standard in every single county,” says Theresa Muncy, RN, forensic nurse manager at Providence SAFE Center.
Removing barriers to support
Instead of navigating multiple organizations and resources alone, survivors can connect with services in one location.
“Theoretically, someone could walk in and meet with all of those agencies in one day, feeling safer in their body, safer in their community, and actually feel like they have support around them,” Theresa says.
“This was never just about a building,” says Rachel Schutz, executive director of the Family Peace Center of Washington County. “This was a promise that we made, that survivors deserved better.”
At a media preview event earlier this month, Chelsea Sokolow, associate vice president of Providence Foundations of Oregon, recognized the donors who helped make the clinic possible.
“Our amazing, generous donor community recognized the impact that this type of clinic, in this type of setting, could have when brought together as one,” Chelsea says.
The new center reflects a shared commitment among Providence, community partners and donors to make compassionate, coordinated care easier to access when survivors need it most.
“All of us at Providence are so proud to be a part of the Family Peace Center so that together, we can create a better future for families in Washington County and beyond,” Chelsea says.
